Sega Toys, a Japanese company has introduced a headset that will act as a personal exercise instructor. Users will hear instructions and instant advices on the basis of the pulse rate that is monitored by the kit on the wearer’s earlobe.

The Body Trainer Headset kit includes a phone that needs to be inserted in the right ear and a tiny clip to be attached to the left ear, which will monitor the user’s heartbeats.

The headset incorporates three exercise programmes- walking, jogging and aerobics. According to the programme that the user chooses, he/she can hear music and a female voice dispensing advice.

For instance, the chosen jogging programme will start with a voice saying “Let’s start warming up”. Depending on the user’s pulse and age, the Body Trainer Headset will offer instant advices such as “Please exercise a little bit harder” etc.

Besides, when not in use, consumers can also connect it to their media players and enjoy the music.

One more advantage of the Body Trainer Headset is its portability. Users can carry it anywhere at anytime.

“We have been pushing for entertainment that adults can also enjoy,” Kokubun told reporters. “There is a great potential for products that make you healthy while having fun,” said Isao Kokubun, President, Sega Toys.

Yoshikazu Itami, an engineering expert has developed this headset.

This Body Trainer Headset will be available in the Japanese market from April 2008 for 5,775 yen (around Rs. 2,227).
